So, Picks at Flies came to me asking for a large (A3) piece involving his personal favourites - Werepenguins. These folks are so near and dear to him that he even based his site on them. The original conversation about the image concluded on the fact that he wanted to see a court of the Werepenguins presided by a royal penguin. So i set out on making a rough...

This was the first draft of what the commission would look like. It's a simple rough pencil to settle on the layout and general design. Once we had that, i started working on designing the characters. Sadly, i lost some of the pencil sketches I did, but here are some character designs I salvaged

These led to the first pencils...

Picks at Flies wasn't happy with the Lady penguin. He wanted her to look less feminine and more penguiny, you can see her development into the final phase among the character designs. However once we were set on those pencils, we were on for the whole show. The inks followed, and i used colored Inks to make my coloring process easier. The coloring was the big deal and it took almost a whole month to finish. As Picks At Flies wanted to hang this piece on his wall, I had to make sure the watercolors didn't damage the paper and that the colors didn't flowover. It was a bit daunting but I have to say that I'm quite happy with the final result. Even better was the fact to hear how Picks at Flies has hung it on the wall by now and loves the piece.
... so I hope you liked this, and If you're interested yourself, do let me know.
